Hodder English Starters

In order to ensure the systematic coverage of Word Level and Sentence Level objectives, Hodder English Starters can be used as an invaluable resource, to give the whole class a quick, interactive start to the lesson.

Hodder English Starters: Word Level and Hodder English Starters: Sentence Level each offer more than 80 starter lessons which can be used in conjunction with New Hodder English to provide full delivery of the National Curriculum and National Strategy for Teaching English objectives.

The Teacher’s Resource material, available to download on this site, contains references to Hodder English Starters which will enable you to plan your lesson in order to consolidate and contextualise certain skills at Text Level, along with New Hodder English. For example, Starters B1 and B2 from Hodder English Starters: Sentence Level (which focus on ‘expanding nouns’) would be useful when looking at the use of ‘adjective + noun  phrases’ in Stanzas VII and VIII of the Pied Piper in Unit 3 of New Hodder English 1.

For 10-15 minutes at the start of each lesson the focused, fast-paced and fun starter activities provide a positive atmosphere for learning. Along with New Hodder English and this FREE Teacher’s Resource, you will be able to cross-reference from one book to the other, planning how a teaching focus in New Hodder English can be introduced or reinforced using a starter activity.
